LAS VEGAS, NM - The Cougars finish the weekend with another win 3-1 against New Mexico Highlands.
HOW IT HAPPENED - Colorado Christian began the half with an aggressive offense having a few shots early in the first half. However, the Cowgirls capitalize on their first shot of the game off a free kick. In the 31st minute New Mexico Highlands played a lofted ball off a free kick about 35 yards out, it was deflected by goalkeeper Ireland Van Dyke. It was kept in play within the chaos in the box, the ball popped out to one of the Cowgirls midfielders, Nitza Rodriguez, as she fired a half volley over the defenders into the side netting of the Cougars goal.
The Cougars did not back down as
Karter Corini and
Capri Dewing took advantage of a restart. Corini assisted Dewing by touching the ball past the goalkeeper to Dewing's feet passing the ball in to the back of the net. However, the goal was called back due to a goalkeeper interference call keeping the score at 1-0 for the Cowgirls.Â
Returning in the second half, the Cougars did not waste time scoring as they tied it up in the 47th minute.
Saige Stock beat a Cowgirl defender dribbling down the sideline took a shot on goal but it was saved and deflected by the goalkeeper.
Capri Dewing came in and scored off of the deflection.Â
Just two minutes later, Van Dyke had a massive punt landing in the Cougars attacking third to Dewing.
Capri Dewing settled it down and had a powerful strike to the lower far corner of the goal scoring her second goal.
In the 56th minute
Karter Corini took advantage of a quick thrown in, dribbled past two Cowgirl defenders and shot a low driven ball past the goalkeeper to the back post and scored her first goal for the Cougars since she transferred to Colorado Christian last year.
Colorado Christian's defense kept them in the game. The defensive line;

Allie Hotz, and
Linnea Mosvold acted as a wall minimizing the amount of shots on goal and dangerous plays leading them to a 3-1 victory.Â
