DALLAS – A rough shooting first half left the Colorado Christian men's basketball team with too much to overcome.
Despite a Cougars second comeback, they couldn't overcome a first half lull as No. 19 DBU registered a 75-66 victory on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Patriots rushed out a big lead during the game's opening 20 minutes. The home team scored the game's first seven points then slowly crept that lead to double figures at 16-4 with 13:01 left until halftime. DBU's first half shooting display continued until the halftime horn as they converted 16 of their 29 (55.2 percent) field goal attempts. They held a 43-20 edge at the break.
In that first half the Cougars shot 24 percent from the floor (6-for-24).
During the final 20 minutes Colorado Christian persisted and pulled within striking distance. A DJ McDonald three-pointer less than four minutes into the half brought the Cougars deficit down to single digits at 47-38. Colorado Christian scored on six of their first eight possession to start the frame.
The Cougars got their deficit down to seven points on an Andy Stafford lay-up with 12:22 remaining. However, that was as close they would get. DBU got their lead back into double figures and held that 10-plus point advantage until the game's final few possessions.
COUGAR LEADERS: Ross Williams notched a team best 22 points while grabbing 12 rebounds. He also dished out a team best four assists.
Isaiah Alanzo recorded a 15-point afternoon with eight rebounds while Stafford rounded out the double figure scorers with 11 points.
