McDonald Leads Three Point Barrage in Friday Victory

LAKEWOOD, CO - An impressive shooting effort from behind the arc was plenty for a post-Thanksgiving win.

The Colorado Christian men's basketball seemingly couldn't miss from deep as they registered a 97-66 victory against the University of the Southwest on Friday afternoon.

During the game the Cougars went 16-for-27 on their three-point attempts. The 16 made three-pointers is tied for the third best single game effort in school history. Leading the way was DJ McDonald who made eight of his 10 chances. He tied the school record for the most made in a single game by a Colorado Christian player.

HOW IT HAPPENED: From the tip, the Cougars were raining threes. Less than two minutes into the game they already made three shots from distance and the momentum kept rolling.

For a vast a majority of the first half the home team held a double figure lead. The University of the Southwest got within nine points with just under six minutes left in the half but never drew closer the remainder of the game.

Colorado Christain led for all but the first 19 seconds of the game when neither team had scored yet. 

The visitors from New Mexico made just two of their 21 attempts from long range in the defeat.

For the game the Cougars shot 57.1 percent from the floor (32-for-56) and connected on 16 of their 27 attempts from deep (59.3 percent).

COUGAR LEADERS: McDonald scored a game and career high 33 points. In addition to his school record tying eight three-pointers, He was 9-for-10 from the foul line.

Andy Stafford played his best game of the young season with a 22-point effort off the bench. The junior converted 10 of his 14 field goal attempts. Isaiah Alonzo rounded out the double figure scorers with a 13-point afternoon.
