Cougars Edged in Thriller Against Westminster College

LAKEWOOD, CO- The Colorado Christian men's basketball team took part in a thriller on Sunday at the CCU Event Center. Taking on Westminster College, the Griffins and Cougars battled to the final horn, with Westminster edging Colorado Christian 66-63.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED- The Griffins started strong and jumped out to an early lead, but the Cougars responded well. Andy Stafford played extremely well, getting a layup and a three-pointer to tie the game at 11. Isaiah Alonzo got the crowd on their feet with a thunderous dunk to put his team in front. Stafford drilled another three and Darius Henderson got on the scoresheet with a layup to pull the Cougars ahead by five.
 
Stafford continued his strong play with a three-point play to get the lead back to five. The Griffins climbed back into the contest with a push to end the half. However, DJ McDonald scored five straight points to end the half with Colorado Christian down 32-30.
 
Westminster jumped ahead quickly to begin the second half, scoring the first five points of the period. Ross Williams heated up in the second frame, pulling the Cougars within six after a shot from downtown.  Another bucket by Williams and a three from Henderson made the deficit a single point.
 
The Cougars regained the lead on a jumper from Williams and a layup from Alonzo. A quick run from the Griffins was responded to by a three from Henderson and a Williams jumper to put Colorado Christian ahead by one. McDonald edged the Cougars ahead by three with 39 seconds remaining. However, the Griffins responded with a three-point play and several free throws as they came back to edge the Cougars 66-63.
 
COUGARS LEADERS:
Williams and Stafford paced the Cougars with 17 points, while Alonzo and Williams each grabbed seven rebounds. Alonzo led Colorado Christian with three assists.
