PUEBLO, CO – After a solid first day at the Southern Colorado Masters, the Colorado Christian men's golf team was in a good spot for a solid finish. The second day was a battle.
The Cougars placed sixth in their final event before the RMAC Championships as they carded a three round total of 875 (+23). CSU Pueblo, who served as the tournament's host, won the team title as they shot an 849 (-3).
Dylan Arthur was the team's top finisher for the Cougars as he placed in a tie for 11th with a three-round score of 216 (+3).
FIRST DAY RECAP: After the first 36 holes the Cougars found themselves tied for the fourth position with Colorado Mesa and Fort Lewis. In a tightly bunched field, Colorado Christian was just five strokes behind UCCS for second place.
Colorado Christian opened Monday with a 294 (+10) in the first round before a nine stroke improvement with a 285 (+1) in the second round.
Arthur was steady in each round as he registered a 69 (-2) and 70 (-1) during the day. The freshman tallied 10 birdies in those two rounds as he was alone in second place. Fellow freshman Mason Richter also posted a top 20 spot after a first round 73 (+2) and a second round 72 (+1).
Johnny Gleason stood at five-over par after the first day with rounds of 74 and 73. Sam Nolley rounded out the top four scoring competitors with a 78 (+7) and 71 (-1). Zach Slayton carded a round of 79 (+8) and 72 (E).
FINAL DAY RECAP: During the last 18 holes the Cougars fell two spots in the standings as they fired a 296 (+12).
Slayton rallied for his best round of the event by shooting the low score on the squad. Aided by a three birdie effort the sophomore carded a 72 (+1). Nolley had a good final round by shooting a two-over par 73.
The final three competitors for the Cougars also shot in the 70s. Richter concluded his tournament with a 75 (+4) with Gleason (76, +5) and Arthur (77, +6) rounding out the squad's performance on Tuesday.
