LITCHFIELD PARK, AZ – The Colorado Christian men's golf team showed their promise as they closed out their season at the RMAC Championships.
The Cougars placed fifth in a tightly bunched field at Wigwam Golf Course's Gold Course. They notched a three-round total of 898 (+34), finishing just eight strokes off runner-up Fort Lewis.
CSU Pueblo won the event with an 874 (+10).
FIRST ROUND RECAP: The opening 18 holes proved to be a trial as the Cougars opened the championships.
Colorado Christian shot an opening round 308 (+20) as they found themselves in the eighth spot but just 11 strokes behind second place.
The duo of Mason Richter and Dylan Arthur each had the best round for the Cougars. Each freshman carded a four-over par 76 as they were tied for the 16th spot in the overall standings.
Johnny Gleason was the one stroke (77, +5) behind them as he was tied for 22nd. Sam Nolley's 79 proved to be the fourth best on the squad as he was tied for 33rd overall.
Zach Slayton carded an 83 as he battled his way to a plus-11 opening round.
SECOND ROUND RECAP: Colorado Christian responded with an outstanding 18 holes during the middle day of the event. Their round of 291 (+3) was the best team round of the day as they moved into a tie for second place with Fort Lewis as Colorado School of Mines and Colorado Mesa were just one and two strokes behind the runner-up spot. CSU Pueblo was plus-five after two round and cruising towards the team title.
Individually Arthur had the best round among all competitors. The Texas native shot a two-under 70 with three birdies and 14 holes played at par. He was tied for fifth and five strokes off the leader heading into Tuesday's final round.
Ritcher moved up one spot to 15th as he recorded a 75 (+3). Nolley shot the team's third best round with a 74 (+2) as he climbed into a tie for 23rd. Gleason fell back a bit with a 79 (+7).
Slayton had the program's second best round as the sophomore went even par 72 as he was tied for 25th heading with one round remaining. He had four-birdie day to aid in his solid effort.
FINAL ROUND RECAP: In the last round the Cougars fells to fifth position as the carded a 299 (+11) over the final 18.
The best round among Colorado Christian golfers were Nolley and Slayton. Each player carded a two-over par 74. Nolley completed his event in the 21st position with Slayton earning a tie for 26th.
Arthur finished his first RMAC Championships with a 76 (+4) as he notched a ninth place finish. As from a rough second hole on Tuesday, he had just one bogey with two birdies during his round.
Richter completed his inaugural championship event with an 18th place showing after firing a final round 75 (+3). Gleason closed out his tournament by registering a 76 (+4).
