LAKEWOOD, CO – Looking to continue their momentum after qualifying for the NCAA postseason for the first time in program history, the Colorado Christian baseball team is excited to announced its 16 newcomers for the 2022 season.
With the graduation of 13 players after the 2021 campaign, the Cougars restocked with a mix of prep and transfer talent.
"I am definitely enthusiastic about this class. With the guys we are bringing in we have players who can step in right away and make an impact. As a coaching staff we are always talking about how excited we are about this class's talent and character," said head coach Paul Koss.
Robby Caro
Leander, TX | Rouse High School (National Park College) | RHP
In his lone season at National Park College he went 4-3 with 47 strikeouts in 50 innings. He also posted a save and threw one complete game.
Cole Douglass
Casper, WY | Casper Crush Legion Team | C
During the 2020 campaign he tallied 10 homeruns and was named an all-state and all-conference performer for Region A and garnered the 2020 Wyoming State Tournament MVP.
Justin Estrada
La Habra, CA | Sonora High School |RHP
The four-time scholar-athlete for the Raiders was named the Reliever of the Year in 2019; the last season of high school baseball in California. During that campaign he helped Sonora to the CIF Southern Section finals while posting a 1.53 ERA in 18 appearances. Estrada was also a member of the football program. Currently, he is playing for the Chugiak Chinooks in the Alaska Baseball League.
Boedy Flores
Harlingen, TX | Harlingen High School (Our Lady of the Lake University) | 3B/OF
He comes to Colorado Christian with 56 games of collegiate experience under his belt. Flores earned a starting nod in 16 of those games. He recorded 17 hits while playing for the Saints. During his prep days, he was a two-time all-district third baseman. Currently his plan is to major in Business Administration.
Jake Gimbel
Lakewood, CO | Columbine High School (Garden City CC) | RHP
Led the KJCCC in appearances (23) while averaging just over a strikeout an inning. The local native threw 29.1 innings last season. During the 2019 season he played his first Junior College season at Lamar.
Cole Kennedy
Newbury Park, CA | Newbury Park HS (Moorpark CC) | RHP
In 22 innings had a 1.64 ERA for Moorpark CC. In his last start of the season he threw a no-hitter against Antelope Valley.
Bennett Manley
Edina, MN | Southwest Christian High School | RHP
A two-sport athlete for the Stars, Manley was vital in helping his team to the conference title. He went 4-0 in his starts as he threw 53.0 innings overall with 66 strikeouts. He let up just one earned run all season. Manley earned all-conference and all-section honors while being the team's CY Young winner. Played a key role in the team advancing to the state championship game. He was also a member of the school's basketball team.
Major Maydon
Leander, TX | Leander High School | 1B/LHP
A two-sport athlete for the Lions. While playing for his summer league team, the Wilkinson Cardinals, he is hitting .352 with a .428 slugging percentage and a .958 OPS. He also has tallied four homeruns.
Aaron Morgan
Parker, CO | Lutheran High School | OF/C
A three-sport athlete during his prep career, he was a member of the baseball, basketball and track/field squad. As a senior he played 17 games, hitting .462 with 20 RBI, six triples and three homeruns as the team reached the state semifinals.
Teagan Rey
Parker, CO | Lutheran High School | OF
In 20 games as a senior hit .431 with seven doubles, two triples, three homeruns and 19 RBI. As their three-hole hitter he was always around the .400 mark as a hitter. Helped the team earned the No. 1 seed for the state playoffs.
Gabe Ramos
Riverside, CA | Patriot High School (Azusa Pacific) | LHP/1B/OF
In his freshman season at Azusa Pacific, he threw 10.1 innings with a 2.61 ERA. During his prep career started at Woodcrest Christian before finishing at Patriot High School. He won the league MVP honor with 44.1 inning pitched with a 2.53 ERA and 47 strikeouts.
Sawyer Shepherd
Windsor, CO | Resurrection Christian School |RHP/1B
A standout for the Cougars, he was an all-state selection as a baseball and football player during his prep days. During his junior campaign he was named the northern Colorado Hitter of the Year. He also played a critical role in helping the Cougars to a state runner-up finish as a junior while hitting .440 with six homeruns. In the fall of 2020, was a redshirt Tight End for Colorado State. Plans on pursuing a degree in Nursing.
Saxton Sorenson
Parker, CO | Lutheran High School | SS/RHP
In the batters box, recorded a .393 batting average with 13 RBI in 16 games. On the mound he threw 34.1 innings with a 7-0 record with a 1.02 ERA with 58 strikeouts.
Ty Stotts
Gilcrest, CO | Valley High School | 1B/RHP
During his senior campaign he was a state all-star while recording a .556 batting average in 16 games with 15 RBI, nine doubles and two homeruns.
Anthony Thomas
Huntington, CA | St. John Bosco | RHP
As a senior had 16 strikeouts in 15 innings pitched. Throws his fastball in the uppers 80s. Also a member of Colorado Baseball Academy during the summer.
Tucker Willingham
Scottsdale, AZ | Scottsdale Christian Academy | C/Util.
A do everything player for the Eagles, he was the team MVP in 2021 while leading the entire state in RBI (43). Recorded a .531 batting average in those 21 games. Willingham, who was primarily a catcher, earned first-team all-region and all-state honors. He comes from a solid athletic pedigree as his two grandfathers played baseball (Baylor) and football (UTEP) respectively while his father threw shot putt at New Mexico State.
