LAKEWOOD, CO - In their first home game of the season Colorado Christian ends their game in double overtime 0-0 against Fort Hays State.
HOW IT HAPPENED - The Cougars came out in the first half a step behind and allowed Fort Hays State to have more possession in the attacking third. They had one shot on goal by Junior
Kinley Sanders as opposed to the Tigers 11 shots. Freshman goalkeeper
Keeley Kroonenberg kept the team in the game with six saves in the first half.Â
Entering the second half Colorado Christian came out with high energy ready to win. They went hard in the attack earning seven shots while the Tigers had six. The Cougars came close to scoring when Sophomore
Taya Starnes shot a low driven free kick on frame. Another close call by Freshman
Capri Dewing beat three opponents, cut into the middle and executed a great shot but unfortunately hit the crossbar.Â
The team was able to hang onto their shutout, with the help of Kroonenberg facing 21 total shots, even on the hottest day of the year. Kroonenberg extended her shutout streak to 207 minutes.
This marks the first time the Cougars recorded a back-to-back shutouts since 2019 when they registered three straight shutouts against Western, New Mexico Highlands, and CSU Pueblo. In addition, the 0-0 draw against CSU Pueblo in the 2019 season was the last scoreless contest the Cougars played. Â
