Cougars First RMAC Game Ends in a Loss

LAKEWOOD, CO - The Cougars finished their first RMAC game of the season with a 1-0 loss against Black Hills State.

HOW IT HAPPENED - The Yellow Jackets started strong and kept possession for the majority of the first 25 minutes. The Cougars picked up their urgency and gained possession back and dominated the first half. They tallied seven shots in the first period compared to the Yellow Jackets three.

Coming into the second half Colorado Christian had several chances on goal recording nine shots in the second half totaling 16 shots throughout the game. In the 80th minutes a Black Hills midfielder Haley Hesselgesser played a through ball, splitting the Cougar's defense, resulting in a one-on-one with their forward Emma Avery against freshman goalkeeper Keeley Kroonenberg. The forward slotted the ball to the back post past the hands of Kroonenberg. 

The Cougars had plenty of chances in the offensive third. Freshman Capri Dewing recorded five shots, sophomore Taya Starnes tallied four, and sophomore Kiana Fen fired two shots. Out of their 16 shots seven were on frame.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE: 
  • Cougars out shot the Yellow Jackets 16 to eight
  • Black Hills freshman goalkeeper Makayla Dannelly made seven saves to keep their shutout
  • Colorado Christian had a total of two corners opposed to Blacks Hills with none
