BOULDER, CO- Colorado Christian Track and Field took part in the Potts Invitational hosted by CU Boulder January 14-15. The Cougars impressed, with three runners posting NCAA provisional qualifying times and a strong overall team performance.
WOMEN'S RECAP
Field events took place day one of the invitational, and the Cougars sent several athletes to compete. Winnie Spurlock posted a mark of 5.11m in the long jump, good for ninth in the event. Ashley Vil placed fourth in the triple jump with a 10.18m jump, while Spurlock followed in fifth with a mark of 10.15m.
Day two saw many more Colorado Christian athletes compete, and it was a stellar day from the team. Tara Smoker posted a team best time of 8.11 in the 60m, followed by Vil at 8.41 and Elizabeth Gueck with a time of 8.63. Hannah George took home 11th in the 200m, running it in 26.12 seconds. Smoker followed with a time of 26.42 and Gueck posted a 29.11.
The Cougars really excelled in the distance events. Michelle Kuipers competed in the mile, and put up a time of 5:13.63. The 3000m was the best event of the day for Colorado Christian. Paige Tack placed fifth in the event with a time of 10:11.52 and Shannon King took seventh with a mark of 10:15.04. Both of these times are NCAA provisional qualifying times and put Tack and King in 13th and 17th on the NCAA National Qualification descending order list.
MEN'S RECAP
The 60m started the day off, and Tyler Bradley placed 16th with a time of 7.20. Aidan Day took home sixth place in the 800m with a time of 1:59.24. In the one mile, Jeremy Miller claimed 11th with a mark of 4:17.31. Chase Bracher followed in 17th with a time of 4:20.48. Tanner James and David Jaquez posted times of 4:40.55 and 5:11.29 respectively.
Much like the women's 3000m, the men performed extremely well in their distance competition. Josh Pierantoni placed third with a time of 8:19.34. This is an NCAA provisional qualifying time and puts Pierantoni in 2nd on the NCAA National Qualification descending order list. Hudson Majeski placed 8th with a time of 8:42.07, and Luke Meyer took 13th, putting up a time of 9:02.86.
