Cougars Stung by Yellow Jackets

Colorado Christian took the court on Friday night to face off with Black Hills State who currently sits atop the rankings in the RMAC conference. It was a hard-fought game by both sides, but Colorado Christian came up just short as they lost by a final score of 80-73.
 
It was a high octane first half as each team battled for the lead throughout the first 20 minutes. Neither team was able to jump ahead as both teams exchanged baskets throughout. The Cougars took the lead late in the half by the score of 39-38, but two late baskets by Black Hills State gave them the advantage heading into halftime by a score of 42-39.
 
The Cougars held the advantage on the glass in the first half as they grabbed 18 rebounds compared to just 10 for Black Hills, however the Yellow Jackets were able to take the lead by shooting nearly 56% from the field, while Colorado Christian shot 48%. The Cougars bench had a big first half as they outscored the Black Hills bench 13-2 in the half. The Cougars were led offensively in the first half by Senior Isaiah Alonzo who had a perfect first half finishing with 12 points on 5-5 shooting including 1-1 from beyond the arc. Senior guard DJ McDonald also had a strong first half finishing in double figures with 10 points.
 
The tight game continued in the second half as the Cougars gave the talented Black Hills team all they could handle on the night. Two minutes into the second half the Cougars took the lead 46-44, but it was short lived as the Yellow Jackets continued their great shooting and eventually took the lead back and was able to hang on for the victory by a final score of 80-73.
 
Three Cougars finished the game in double figures led by the front court duo DJ McDonald and Ross Williams who both finished the game with 23 points. Isiah Alonzo finished the with 15 points and led the Cougars with five rebounds in the game.
 
Colorado Christian takes the court for their next game on Tuesday February 1st against Western State College. The game will be played at the CCU Event Center in Lakewood, CO and tip is scheduled for 7pm.
