LAKEWOOD,CO- Colorado Christian took on #2 MSU Denver at home on Tuesday evening. An experienced Roadrunners team came away with the straight set win despite a battle from the Cougars.
HOW IT HAPPENED- MSUD came out firing, jumping to a 6-2 lead early. However, a push from CCU led by a pair of kills from Renee Phillips had them back within 8-6. Another lengthy run from the Roadrunners gave them firm control of the set at 13-6 before a Cougars run brought them back to within two at 17-15 on kills from Lilly Woods and Phillips. A long run down the stretch from MSU Denver put them back in control as they took the set 25-18 in a competitive tussle.
Set two was again controlled early by MSUD as they raced to an early 8-3 lead. Just like before though, CCU clawed their way back, using several Roadrunner errors to get back to 8-6. A long MSUD run midway through the set made it 16-9, and the Cougars could never quite recover, falling 25-16 in set two.
The theme of the night was who could make runs at critical times, and Colorado Christian had the lead early at 4-2 as they looked to push a fourth set. A key run from MSU Denver gave them back the lead 8-5, and they never looked back. Trailing 17-10, the Cougars made a push to get within four at 17-14, but another long run from the Roadrunners gave them a set point at 24-16 and they closed out a 25-17 victory for the sweep.
