The Colorado Christian Women's basketball team is preparing for a big weekend coming up as they will be opening up conference play with the start of the RMAC schedule as they square off against two tough opponents. As the calendar flips over to December, the Cougs will begin the weekend with a game on December 2
nd against New Mexico Highlands which will be hosted at the CCU Event Center in Lakewood, CO. The Cougars remain at home for their next RMAC matchup on December 3
rd as they square off against CSU Pueblo. For the first time this season, Colorado Christian has been named in the top 10 in the South Central Region after coming in ranked 7th in the latest poll.
Get to know New Mexico Highlands: New Mexico Highlands will be traveling in to Lakewood on Friday night to take on the Cougars to open up RMAC play on Friday December 2
nd with tip scheduled at 5PM MST. The Cowgirls are coming into the game on Friday with a perfect 6-0 record, but CCU at home always presents a tough matchup for anyone. They are led offensively by freshman Juliana Aragon who currently averages 12.3 PPG, and is second on the team in assists. Also averaging double-figures for New Mexico Highlands are Krystina Hagood (11.0 PPG) and Delani Harris (10.8 PPG).
If history is any indication, then CCU has a very good chance at handing Highlands their first loss of the season. In their previous matchups CCU has compiled an 18-7 record against the Cowgirls, including going 8-2 in their last 10 matchups. Another good sign for the Cougars is that during these previous matchups, the Cougs are nearly perfect at home as they have compiled a 12-1 record. This will be a tough matchup, but one that CCU will be well prepared for.
Get to Know CSU Pueblo: CSU Pueblo will be entering the weekend with a 3-3 record on the season, and will be traveling to Lakewood on Saturday December 3
rd after taking on Chadron State in Chadron, NE on Friday night. It will be a lot of travel for the Thunderwolves in a short amount of time, which could give the Cougars the advantage in a tightly contested game.
CSU Pueblo is led offensively by Charisse Fairley who is currently averaging 10.8 PPG and Landri Hudson who is averaging 10.0 PPG. Another player that the Cougars will need to look out for is JaNaiya Davis who averages 7.8 PPG and 7.2 RPG.
Cougar Attack Led By: The Cougars have one of the most balanced offensives in the RMAC so any given night any player can take over the game. CCU has seven players that are averaging at least eight points per game so far on the season led by Regan LoConte who averages 10.5 PPG. Agnes Paul and Maggie Hutka are always on double-double alert as Paul averages 9.5 PPG and 9.3 RPG, while Hutka averages 8.0 PPG and 7.5 RPG.
Head coach Diane Thompson spoke leading into the big weekend as she said, "Whenever I look at the schedule, I always consider three seasons. The Pre-Season, the Conference Season and the Post Season. I am really excited for our Conference Season to begin this weekend, and for us to continue getting better each and every day."
