The CCU Women's Track and Field team made the Journey to Gunnison, CO over the weekend to compete in the Mountaineer Open hosted by Western Colorado. It was a strong showing from the team as everyone gave it their all, and multiple school records were tested on the day.
 
Hannah George started things off as she competed in the sprinting events both the 60M and the 200M. In the 60M, George posted a stellar time of 7.93, which is just .02 away from tying her own school record which she set last year at the RMAC Indoor Championships. She went on to compete in the 200M, and posted a time of 26.71, which also narrowly missed her own school record of 26.57 set last year.
 
Tara Smoker came in right behind George in the 200M with a time of 27.09 and then went on to compete in the 400M. Smoker shattered the school record in the 400M by nearly a full second as she came in with a time of 1:00.49 breaking the previous record of Meghan Mazza set back in 2017.  
Also having great days on the track were other members of the team including Alayna Wallace who took first in the 800M race with a time of 2:29.59 and ran a NCAA National qualifying time. In the Mile race, the Cougars had five runners place in the top eight, highlighted by Callie Ketner who finished with a time of 5:41.19. Elizabeth Mattson raced in the 3000M and posted a time of 10:43.90.  
Ashley Vil capped off the Colorado Christian competitors on the day, and she didn't disappoint as she competed in the Triple Jump. Vil jumped her way into the CCU record books as she obliterated the previous record. She finished with a distance of 35'3.25", breaking the previous record of 32'8.5".
 
The team will be heading back home with their heads held high after a great performance in this meet as they will now prepare for a break before their next meet which will take place January 21^st and will be hosted by UCCS.
