LAKEWOOD, CO- Colorado Christian hosted a Valentines Day game against Fort Lewis on Monday. The Cougars could not keep up with a potent Skyhawks offense in a 90-73 loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED- Fort Lewis got to work quickly with consecutive threes to start the game. DJ McDonald responded by drilling a three of his own. Shaylen Woodberry then nailed a shot from deep to cut the deficit to three. Another McDonald three made it a two point game. Jason Gallant hit a jumper to tie the game at 11. Woodberry got a layup as halfway into the first half the score stood tied at 18.
The Skyhawks jumped back ahead with a seven point run, but Gallant brought it back to five with a jumper. Andy Stafford hit a three to make the deficit seven, but Fort Lewis pulled away to close the half a take a 45-31 lead to the break.
Fort Lewis grabbed momentum to start the second half, hitting several threes to stretch the lead to 18. Christian Bento hit a jumper as the score stood at 64-42 midway through the half.
Nic Ziel connected from deep to cut into the lead, but the Skyhawks continued to hold a 20 point lead heading down the stretch. Ziel cut the lead to 18 with a layup, and Jaret Duft entered and immediately drilled a thee for the Cougars. In the end it was not enough as Fort Lewis ultimately claimed a 90-73 win.
COUGARS LEADERS:
Jason Gallant led his team with 18 points followed by Nic Ziel with 16. Isaiah Alonzo led the team with eight boards and Gallant dished out five assist to pace Colorado Christian.
