Cougars Push Conference Leaders to Brink in Overtime Loss

SPEARFISH S.D.- Colorado Christian took on the team with the best record in the RMAC Friday night in South Dakota. The Cougars nearly pulled off the upset of Black Hills State, but a late tying bucket from the Yellowjackets led to an overtime loss 90-81.

HOW IT HAPPENED- Isaiah Alonzo got the scoring started with a quick layup, and then a three to push his team ahead 5-0 early. Christian St. Germain hit a three as the lead grew to six. The Yellowjackets fought back, taking a six point lead with 9:49 till the break.

This time it was the Cougars turn to come back, and they did thanks to a Ross Williams three that cut the gap to one. St. Germain hit a three to give his team the lead back as the Cougars held the lead to the break to take a 37-32 lead to halftime.

A Williams jumper pushed his team ahead 41-33 early in the second half, and DJ McDonald connected from deep as the Cougars looked primed to pull off the upset. Yet again Black Hills clawed their way back to take a five point lead midway through the half as the battle continued.

Darius Henderson made a huge three followed by a McDonald jumper to put Colorado Chrristian back ahead. The two teams traded leads down the stretch time and time again until Williams drilled a jumper with 17 ticks left on the clock to put his team up 77-75. The Yellowjackets forced overtime with a late jumper with four second remaining as the battle continued on.

The home team quickly took momentum with two straight buckets to start overtime, but McDonald hit a pair of free throws to cut the lead to one. That was as close as the Cougars would get as the Yellowjackets closed out the game to win 90-81.
