LAKEWOOD,CO- The Cougars hosted the Colorado School of Mines in a big game at the CCU Event Center on Saturday. The Orediggers offensive firepower proved too much as they claimed an 85-50 victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED- The visitors got off to a hot start, taking an early 9-0 lead. Ross WIlliams responded though, drilling a contested three pointer for the Cougars first points. Williams continued to pour in the points with a jumper and layup, and Shaylen Woodberry hit a three a little under halfway through the first period.
Jason Gallant joined in the scoring with a jumper, and Isaiah Alonzo put in a layup for his squad. DJ McDonald then went on a mini-run with a jumper and three-pointer, but the Orediggers offense continued to make baskets to take a 42-23 lead to the break.
Alonzo got the scoring started in the second half, and a Williams layup continued the points for Colorado Christian. Gallant and McDonald connected from beyond the arc, and Andy Stafford hit a layup at the midway mark of the second half.
Williams hit a pair of free throws and Alonzo drilled a few from the stripe as well. Woodberry hit a late three-pointer and Alonzo put in another pair of free throws, but it was not enough as the Orediggers pulled away for the 85-50 win.
COUGARS LEADERS:
Ross Williams led his team with 14 points and Shaylen Woodberry and Andy Stafford snagged five boards apiece. Woodberry paced his team with three assists.
