Crenshaw Gets First Team All-Region Honor

For his stellar season on the field this year, Wyatt Crenshaw has been named to the 2022 South Central All-Region First-Team. Crenshaw led the Cougars in most offensive categories on the year and showcased his defensive skillset to become one of the best all-around players in the region this season.

Wyatt Crenshaw finished the season with a .422 batting average which set a new program record for a single season as the previous record was an average of .400 by Brett Myatt during the 2009 season. He also cemented his name in the records book by collecting 79 hits on the year to place him in second place all-time, which is also where he sits in the record books for runs scored in a season with 53. He is now tied for the school record in doubles (20) and triples (7) for a season while setting a school record for RBI with 71, total bases with 161 and slugging percentage at .861%.

Crenshaw is in rarified air as he becomes the first Cougar ever to collectively record over 75 hits, 20 doubles, 15 homeruns, five triples and 10 stolen bases. This was truly one of the best all-around seasons that the program has ever had by an individual player. Crenshaw finished in the top five across the conference in several offensive categories including batting average, slugging percentage, hits, RBI, doubles, and triples.

Wyatt Crenshaw, a junior from Gilbert, AZ, led all of Division II baseball with a stellar 5.1 WAR. WAR stands for wins above replacement and is defined as the measure of a player's value in all facets of the game by deciphering how many more wins he's worth than a replacement-level player at his same position. The next closest player behind Crenshaw in WAR was only at 4.42, which means that Wyatt has been the most valuable player in the nation at the DII level by a wide-margin.

His accomplishments on the field this season have been impressive to say the least and was rewarded with the selection to the 2022 South Central All-Region First Team presented by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. The South Central All-Region teams were voted on by a committee of 10 members hailing from both the RMAC and Lone Star Conferences. This is the first time that CCU has ever had a player named to the South Central Region First Team. Three other Cougars have earned Second Team honors, most recently Jerry Gallegos back in 2017, but Crenshaw becomes the inaugural First Team honoree.
