WBB Gets Set for Pair of Road Games

LAKEWOOD, CO- Coming off a thrilling comeback win against UCCS at home this past Saturday, the Cougars now get set for a pair of road matchups in South Dakota and Nebraska.

First up for CCU will be a trip to Spearfish, S.D. to take on Black Hills State on January 26th at 5 p.m. MST. The Yellowjackets enter the matchup with a 10-2 conference record and 15-3 mark overall after they downed in-state rival South Dakota Mines on Tuesday. They are led offensively by Danica Kocer, who enters the contest with an average of 14.1 points per game, while Niki Van Wyk follows her with 10.6 ppg. Kalla Bertram and Alessia Capley take charge on the boards, averaging 4.6 rebounds a game. Van Wyk is the main facilitator, dishing out 1.9 assists a game. Ellie Moore leads her squad in field goal percentage at a clip of .460. BHSU is a tough squad that will present many challenges as they look to climb into a tie for first in the conference with Colorado School of Mines with a win on Thursday.

The second contest will come next week on Tuesday, January 31st at 5:30 p.m. MST at Chadron State. The Eagles currently sit at 3-10 in the RMAC and 3-16 overall. They will be looking to improve their record at home after a tough 1-3 stretch in their arena recently. Ashayla Powers leads the charge, scoring an impressive 17.5 ppg for her team. Powers also carries her team in rebounds, averaging 6.7 per contest. Kadyn Comer averages 2.4 assists per game, while Powers is the leader in field goal percentage, shooting .564 from the field. Chadron State is a team hungry for a win, and they will do all they can to slow the Cougar attack and take a victory on their home court.

On the Cougars side, they are coming off an impressive come from behind victory at home against UCCS last Saturday. In that game, Maggie Phipps and Maggie Hutka came up big late, with Phipps drilling the tying three before Hutka hit the go ahead shot from downtown with under a minute to play to put her team in the lead for good. Phipps leads the offense with 12.2 ppg, followed by Dasiya Jones at 9.6 per contest. Agnes Paul and Hutka help tremendously on the boards, averaging 7.2 and 5.8 rebounds respectively. Freshman point guard Nicole Bowlin continues to spread the ball around well to her teammates, tallying 3.9 assists per game. Paul and Makenna Bodette are consistent with their shooting percentage, posting marks of .462 and .452. CCU will surely be motivated by their recent victory as they look to push their 4-9 conference record forward with a fifth and sixth win this next week.
