Who is Molly Miller?

LAKEWOOD, CO — Today, Molly Miller was interviewed about her experience as a two-sport athlete and fifth-year student at Colorado Christian University. Hailing from Masonville, Colorado, Miller has impacted both the soccer and cross-country teams with her passion for the sports and consistent perseverance. Her athletic career at CCU has been a story of redemption and faithfulness to the Lord's calling in her life.

Why CCU Athletics?

Molly Miller grew up as an only child with a single mother who has always been her biggest supporter. Never allowing Miller to give less than her best, she pushed Molly to her full potential in every area, but especially in running. From an early age, Miller had a passion for athletics, therefore, her search for a university included a pursuit of a place to further her soccer career. She never thought she would make it through the recruiting process at the time, but through a whirlwind experience where Bible verses were spoken over her during a Colorado Christian University Preview event, Miller was reminded of God's faithfulness. She walked onto the soccer team her freshman year and was quickly offered a scholarship. It is now clear to Molly that attending CCU was the Lord's plan for her life.

Career Obstacles

However, Miller's four years on the soccer team were filled with obstacles. Throughout games spent on the bench, several injuries, and a diagnosis of progressive anemia, the Lord deeply humbled her. She could have chosen to be bitter but instead learned to endure well for the joy of the sport. Molly realized that all suffering is for a purpose and that she does not have the means to control the present or the future. This led to a change in her perspective of leadership as well.
"When I felt the most invisible, my team chose me to be the chaplain," said Miller, remembering how the time that she felt all alone was when her team looked up to her the most. "I realized that leadership is found on the bench and not the field."
Sports became small to her, and she lost the idol of fitness that was a major focus in her life. God guided Molly in using her struggles to persevere and lead her team, even if it meant she was doing it from the sidelines. She now understands that the sport is secondary to the relationships that are formed within the team.

Transition to XC/Track and Field

Molly Miller wholeheartedly believes that the Lord called her to run track and field for her last year. However, when she first received the message to switch, it caused a lot of fear and uncertainty.

"I knew that if I did not choose this (transition) because of fear, I would be running with fear my entire life," said Miller, expressing the reason why she made the leap. She continued by saying, "The Lord is more concerned with transformation than comfort."
She chose to be faithful to God instead of listening to her fear and staying right where she was. Although it was a major change, Miller trusted that He would use this opportunity to grow and strengthen her. She has since loved her decision to switch sports. It was not a difficult transition and she quickly bonded with her team.

The Lord has been faithful throughout not just her transition to cross country, but her entire athletics career at Colorado Christian University. With a heart for her teams and a passion for giving her best, Molly Miller is a great example of what it looks like to place trust in the Lord on and off the field. She is a true model of CCU Athletics.
