WBB Set for Final Two Games of the Season

LAKEWOOD, CO- The Cougars return home this week for their final contests of the year at the CCU Event Center. They begin with a midweek matchup on Wednesday against Black Hills State at 5 p.m. MST, followed by Senior Night on February 25 at 1 p.m. MST against South Dakota Mines. 



The Yellow Jackets currently sit in third in the RMAC, just behind Regis and Colorado School of Mines. The two teams met in South Dakota in late January, with BHSU winning a close battle with the Cougars 70-63. They are led offensively by Danica Kocer, who scores 13 points per game for her team. Niki Van Wyk follows with 12.1 points a contest. Alessia Capley pulls down 4.4 rebounds a game, while Kalla Bertram averages 4.2. Van Wyk dishes out 1.7 assists on average, and Morgan Hammerbeck puts out 1.5 The Yellow Jackets are riding a three-game win streak and will look to
make it four on Wednesday. 



Senior Night on Saturday will surely be a packed house as the Hardrockers of South Dakota Mines visit CCU for the final game of the season. SDM is in the midst of a tough season, sitting in last place in the RMAC standings, and Saturday will be the last game of the year for both teams. The Hardrockers rely on Piper Bauer on offense, as she scores 14.2 points a game. Madelyn Heiser scores 10 points per contest for her team. On the boards, Sydnee Durtsche pulls down 7.5 a game, while Heiser and Lauren Herman grab 4.6 per contest. Heiser leads with 2.7 assists per game, and Durtsche dishes out 2.1 a contest. SDM will be looking to close their season out with a win and push towards the next year with positive momentum. 

For the Cougars, they are coming off a pair of close losses on the roast at Mines and Metro. They will look to get back on track for their final two games of the year against two South Dakota schools inside the CCU Event Center. Maggie Phipps continues to lead her team with 11.9 ppg, while Dasiya Jones chips in 9.8 for her team. Agnes Paul grabs 7.2 rebounds per game, and 5.5 from Maggie Hutka helps the squad. Nicole Bowlin puts out 3.6 apg, and Victoria Perez dishes out 3.3 a contest. Colorado Christian will be looking to close the season out the right way as they take on a pair of teams from up north and celebrate their seniors on Saturday.
