LAKEWOOD, CO- After a thrilling two win record the previous record, the Cougars will hit the road for a pair of games in Colorado and New Mexico. They will get ready to take on CSU Pueblo on February 10 before heading south to take on New Mexico Highlands.
CCU hosted the Thunderwolves on December 3, claiming an impressive 76-71 victory on their home court. Pueblo will look to even the season series by claiming a win on their home court on Friday. Charisse Fairley leads the charge at 11.9 ppg, followed by Landri Hudson at 10.1 a contest. JaNaiya Davis pulls down 6.3 rebounds per game, and Fairley grabs 5.6 a game. Davis dishes out 3.2 apg, while Tomia Johnson averages 2.7 assists a contest. CSU Pueblo sits one game ahead of the Cougars in the RMAC standings and will look to push that gap even further with a win on Friday.
The Cowgirls started the year strong, beating CCU 74-66 in Lakewood on December 2, but ever since they have started to fade. They sit at 5-11 in conference play, just a game behind the Cougars coming into the weekend. Offensively, Juliana Aragon leads with 14.2 points per game. Krystina Hagood follows with a tally of 9.4 ppg. Neysa Munguia pulls down 7.1 boards a game, followed by Hagood at 6.5. Aragon paces her team in assists as well, facilitating with 3 per contest, while Rachael Niles averages 2.7 per game. The Cowgirls are on a four game losing streak and will surely be hungry to right the ship at home.
Maggie Phipps came through in a big way at Chadron State last week, drilling a buzzer beating three to beat the Eagles on the road. CCU then came home and handled business against Western Colorado for their second victory of the week. They will look to make it three and four in a row this weekend with a pair of matchups against teams that are close in the RMAC standings, separated by a game apiece. Phipps leads the offense, scoring 12.5 ppg, and Dasiya Jones puts up 9.6 a contest. On the boards, it is Agnes Paul leading the way with 7.4 rpg, and Maggie Hutka pulls down 5.8 a contest. Nicole Bowlin has remained the assists leader all season, averaging 3.6 each game, while Victoria Perez dishes out 3.3 a game. The Cougars face a pair of very important games as they look to climb the closely contested RMAC standings with a pair of wins on the road this weekend.
