LAKEWOOD, CO- The Cougars opened conference play against a team they played just last Sunday in Colorado School of Mines. This time around the competition took place at All Star Park in Lakewood, and the Orediggers used hot hitting on their way to a 21-6 victory.
The visitors got to work early on, scoring four runs in each of the first two innings. The Cougars got on the board in the bottom of the second with an RBI single from Saxton Sorenson to score Major Maydon. Two more runs came across the plat for CCU in the third, as Luke Thompson tallied an RBI single while Boedy Flores doubled home Thompson for the third run of the day for the hosts.
Flores nabbed another RBI in the fifth with a groundout. However, Mines kept scoring throughout to pull to a strong lead. Freshman Jonny Tewinkle showed off his power in the seventh, though, slamming a two-run homer to right field. In the end, it was the visitors who came out on top 21-6.
Flores and Tewinkle led the offense with a pair of RBI in the game for their team.
The Cougars will get back at it on March 11 with a doubleheader against the Orediggers at 12 and 3 p.m. MST at All Star Park.
