GOLDEN, CO- CCU competed for the third day in a row on Sunday, taking on Colorado School of Mines in Golden. In a tight battle, an early lead was not quite enough in an 8-6 defeat to the Orediggers. 

Gabe Ramos remained scorching hot at the plate, blasting a three-run homer in the first inning for the early lead. Luke Thompson followed with a solo shot to right field as the Cougars jumped ahead 4-0. They continued the scoring in the second with a Frankie Shearn single to grow the lead to 5-1 heading to the bottom of the second. 

Mines mounted a comeback, fighting their way back toa  5-5 tie at the end of three innings. The Orediggers tacked on three more runs to take an 8-5 lead, but CCU did not give up the fight. Shearn notched his second RBI single of the game in the seventh, tightening the gap to 8-6. However, the hosts held off Colorado Christian and came away with an 8-6 victory in the Cougars final preseason game before RMAC play begins.

Saxton Sorenson and JC Watne each pitched four innings, combining for six strikeouts on the day. Ramos and Shearn led the offense with three and two RBI respectively. 

Colorado Christian will get a chance to avenge their loss when they begin RMAC play with a four-game series at home against Mines beginning March 10 at 3 p.m.
