LAKEWOOD, CO- Agnes Paul is a senior here at Colorado Christian University, hailing from Nigeria. Her journey to CCU was not an easy one. After looking at potential schools, she fell in love with the culture and campus of CCU. She was looking for a school that aligned with her faith and values and found that in CCU. She knew that this was the place where she belonged.
Agnes' time at CCU has been marked by both success and struggle. As a basketball player, she has faced the challenges of navigating Covid-19 restrictions while still trying to maintain her training schedule. On top of that, travel restrictions have made it impossible for her to return home to Nigeria. It has been six long years since she has seen her mother, and the distance can sometimes feel unbearable.
But through it all, Agnes has found solace in her passion for braiding hair. She has been braiding hair for as long as she can remember, learning the craft from her mother at a young age. Braiding hair is not just a business for Agnes; it's a way for her to feel connected to her home and her family. "Whenever I braid hair, it brings me closer to home and reminds me of my culture. It really takes me back and reminds me of Nigeria".
Braiding hair has also allowed Agnes to connect with people in a unique way. She loves hearing people's stories and learning about their lives. Through her conversations with clients, she has gained new perspectives on the world and has been able to see things through different eyes. Agnes believes that the diversity of hair is a testament to the wonders of God, and that every person has a unique story to tell.
As graduation approaches, Agnes is faced with the daunting prospect of entering the "real world". But she is determined to pursue her dreams of owning her own hair salon. For Agnes, braiding hair is not just a job, it's a calling. She knows that this is what she was meant to do with her life, and she is excited to see where it takes her.
Through it all, Agnes remains grateful for the opportunities that CCU has given her. She has become a beloved member of the CCU community, with students from all over campus seeking her out for hair appointments. Agnes says that God gave her the gift of braiding hair, and she is grateful for the chance to share that gift with others.
Agnes' story is a powerful example of the human side of sports. Beyond the wins and losses, the statistics and scores, there is a person with a unique story and a deep passion.
Agnes Paul is not just a basketball player, she is a braider of hair, a lover of people, and a woman of faith.
