DENVER, CO- The Cougars stayed in Denver on Friday, taking on nearby Regis University. Colorado Christian fought hard to the end, but ultimately fell short 11-8 to the Rangers.
The hosts jumped in front early, going ahead 6-0 after three. Gabe Ramos cut into the deficit with a solo homer, and the Cougars made a strong push in the fifth and sixth. Aaron Morgan started the rally, blasting a solo shot of his own in the fifth. Eli Ludwig singled home another run, and Sawyer Shepherd knocked one out of the park to close the gap to 8-4. Caden Walton then singled home another run as the gap stood at three.
Shepherd picked up a sacrifice lineout in the seventh, and Luke Thompson doubled home a run for an 11-7 deficit. Shepherd hit his second homer of the game in the ninth, but in the end it was just short in an 11-8 loss.
Harrison Nation started on the bump, and A.J. Perez, Chaz Graham and Cole Kennedy also saw action. Shepherd had a breakout game, picking up 3 RBI on a two homer day.
Colorado Christian will return to action with a pair of seven inning doubleheaders April 29 at noon and 2:30 p.m. MST.
