Furious Game 2 Rally Caps Doubleheader Sweep at Regis

DENVER, CO- The Cougars returned to action at Regis for a pair of seven inning matchups against the Rangers on Saturday. With the push for a spot in the RMAC tournament fully in swing, CCU showed they are a team to reckon with, taking down the conferences' third place team in a pair of impressive victories.

GAME ONE
Robby Caro set the tone on the mound early, quickly setting down the Rangers' batters in order through the first two innings. Gabe Ramos then got his team on the board with his team and conference leading 18th homer of the season, a three-run shot to right field to put his team in front. Sawyer Shepherd then added another run with an RBI double before Aaron Morgan slammed a two-run homer to center field to cap an impressive six run inning for the Cougars.

A sac fly pushed a single run for the Rangers across in the third, but CCU would not let things get any closer than that. Saxton Sorenson notched a two RBI double in the fifth, and Ramos blasted his second home run of the game with a solo shot in the sixth. Caden Walton picked up a sacrifice lineout before two late runs from Regis ended the game with a final score of 10-3.

Caro was tremendous all game, securing a complete game victory with just two final inning hits allowed as he came close to throwing the no hitter. Ramos powered the offense with his two homer, 4 RBI game.

GAME TWO
The second contest of the day took on a different look, as the hosts jumped ahead 3-0 after four innings. A Boedy Flores solo home run in the fifth, but a three-run sixth from the Rangers had CCU in a tough spot heading to the final inning. Trailing 6-1, CCU began to rally, as the first two batters reached base before Sorenson brought them both home with a double to cut the gap to 6-3.

With runners at second and third, Luke Thompson came up with a clutch two RBI single down the left field line as suddenly CCU trailed by just one run. With one out and Thompson at second, Jordan Medina launched one of the biggest hits of the season, a two-run blast over the left center field wall as a jubilant CCU dugout exploded in celebration with a 7-6 lead now in hand. JC Watne entered looking for the save, and he did exactly what he was called upon to do as he set down the Rangers to close out a thrilling come-from-behind victory for the Cougars.

Jake Gimbel secured the win with 6 innings pitched and just 3 earned runs allowed, fabbing 6 Regis batters on his way to victory. The offense came up huge when it counted, rallying for six final inning runs in a very important win for the Cougars.

Colorado Christian will look to win the series at regis tomorrow as they take on the Rangers at 3 p.m. MST in the finale of the four-game set.
