DENVER, CO- With a chance to close out a series victory on Sunday at Regis, CCU wasted little time in making sure they would do just that. An early ambush allowed Colorado Christian to build a large lead and they never looked back on their way to victory.
Jordan Medina got the offense going right away, slashing a two-run double down the left field line for the early lead. The Cougars padded that lead in a big way in the third thanks to two huge hits. The first came off the bat of Boedy Flores, who launched a three- run home run to left center to make it 5-0. CCU was not done, as they loaded the bases before Luke Thompson got into a ball and sent it over the left field wall for a grand slam.
With a 9-0 lead in hand, the Rangers mounted a four-run rally in their half of the third, but CCU would not let them get close. An immediate response came in the form of an Aaron Morgan single, and Frankie Shearn came next with a two RBI double to make it 12-4. After Regis brought a few runs back, Major Maydon got in on the action with an RBI single as the COugars closed out an impressive 13-8 victory.
Cole Kennedy picked up the win with 3.2 innings pitched, controlling the Rangers with seven strikeouts on just four hits and one run allowed. Thompson and Flores provided the needed offense as their home runs broke the game wide open in the third.
Colorado Christian will now take on New Mexico Highlands for their final regular season series as they look to push for a spot in the RMAC Tournament. The series will be played at MSU Denver, with first pitch on May 5 slated for 12 p.m. MST.
