LAKEWOOD, CO- Today we had the opportunity to interview Colorado Christian University star track runner,
Hannah George. Hannah is from Woodbury, Minnesota and is currently a junior at CCU. In our limited time with Hannah we asked her a few questions.
What are some obstacles you have overcome in your track & field career?
⁃ Injuries have been difficult for sure. we definitely push our bodies to the max and it ends up being a little too much sometimes, which ends up setting you back. while injuries are tough, they are still learning experiences, and I think have still helped push me toward success.
What's been the highlight of your overall career?
⁃ Building relationships with teammates and traveling with them. we've got the chance to go to a lot of cool places and make lots of memories.
What moment from CCU track and field will you never forget?
⁃ Making finals in the 100m at the conference my sophomore year. I wasn't anywhere close to being seeded fast enough but PRed by almost half a second (which doesn't sound like a lot but in a short race it is).
Who inspired you to get into track and field?
⁃ My mom ran in college and she always wanted me to try it. I started in late middle school and ended up being pretty good at it and now I'm motivated to be faster than her.
How did your parents support your career?
⁃ They've been able to make it to a lot of meets, which has meant a lot to know they're there for me, even though they live far away.
What advice would you give young girls interested in track and field?
⁃ I would say it's important to trust the process. I struggled in high school to make any improvements, but once I got to college it all started falling into place. the pieces started coming together with all of the training and lifting, and I've been getting faster ever since. it's difficult in the moment to see how a workout might benefit you, but if you trust your coaches, it all works out.
What has been the funniest thing that has happened during your track career?
⁃ I don't think I can point to just one moment but the combination of 6 am practices and long bus rides when we're beyond tired usually provide plenty of entertainment.
What is your favorite sport to watch as a fan?
⁃ I enjoy watching volleyball because its fast-paced and I used to play.
If you could go back in time and redo one race, which one and why?
⁃ We attempted a 4x100 my freshmen year and that's my favorite race, but we got DQed and I want to do it again because we haven't been able to run a relay and they're the most fun.
Well, there we go! Thank you for your time Hannah, and we appreciate your responses. Hannah has overcome adversity with her injuries while having quite the track & field career at CCU. She has made many memories with her teammates while at track meets and early morning practices. It has been great getting to know you and understand your love for track & field more. Once again, thank you Hannah!
