Colorado Christian See Tremendous Results at RMAC Championships

SPEARFISH, S.D.- The Cougars traveled north to South Dakota as they competed at the RMAC Indoor Championships hosted by Black Hills State on Friday and Saturday. The team saw some incredible performances, highlighted by a win in the men's Distance Medley Relay and a podium finish from Ashley Vil in the triple jump. 

Shannon King started things for the women as she raced in the 5000m, claiming 11th place with a time of 18:08.08. Maleah Wardlaw, Michelle Burroughs, Benisa Ellis and Callie Ketner competed in the distance medley relay, and they claimed 8th with a time of 12:57.39. King then ran the mile, claiming fourth with a converted time of 4:47.84 to earn herself the 19th mark in all of division II for a provisional qualifying time. 

Tara Smoker continued in the 400m, claiming 12th with a run of 58.63. Hannah George ran a personal best of 7.80 in the 60m, claiming 11th in the race. Zanzie Demco and Ava Maginity ran the 800m, claiming 9th and 11th respectively with runs of 2:16.45 and 2:17.32. Ashley Vil closed in the triple jump, posting a fantastic result with a third place finish after a jump of 11.56m to put herself on the podium with a fantastic close to the indoor season. 

For the men, Alex Vance raced in the 5000m, nabbing an 8th place finish with a time of 14:39.11. The Distance Medley Relay was the highlight of the meet for the Cougars, as the foursome of Trent Cochran, Mateo Luna, Hudson Majeski and Matthew Storer claimed the RMAC title with a fantastic race. Cochran led off with the 1200m, posting a time of 3:06. Luna followed with the 400m and posted a time of 51.3. Majeski came next in the 800m, running a 1:57 to put the final leg into Storer's hands. Storer took the baton and set off on the 1600m, battling with Western Colorado for the title. Storer stayed connected throughout, and on the final straight found the kick to power past his competitor and give his team the victory with a final time of 10:06.17. Not only were the foursome crowned RMAC Champions, the time converted to a 9:52.41 to set an NCAA Provisional Qualifying Time. 

Majeski and Cochran returned the next day for the mile, taking 7th and 8th with times of 4:16.46 and 4:16.68 respectively. Luna took on the field in the 800m, running a 1:56.25 to claim 6th overall. 

After a tremendous RMAC Championships, CCU will now close the indoor season at the NCAA Championships at Pitt State March 8-9, with selections to be announced on February 27.
