Cougars Headed to Texas for Regionals, Set to Face Colorado Mesa in Game One

LAKEWOOD, CO- The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) announced their division II softball regional field across eight regions Monday morning, and CCU is headed to Tyler, Texas as the three seed in the South Central Region.

After a regular season that saw the Cougars put together tremendous play for a 49-8 overall record and a conference mark of 39-5, the team is ready to get to work in Texas. The first opponent for Colorado Christian is a familiar foe, as they will take on RMAC rival Colorado Mesa on day one after the Mavericks earned the six seed in the region. The Cougars' side of the bracket consists of host UT Tyler, St. Mary's (TX) and CMU. CCU has faced off with two of these teams already, taking three of four from Colorado Mesa and splitting an early-season doubleheader with the Rattlers in February. CCU is also familiar with the host site of Irwin Ballpark in Tyler as they competed in Regionals there in 2022. As always the Regional is a double elimination format, with the winner advancing to the best of three Super Regional Series to compete for a spot in the College World Series.

The at-large bid comes as no surprise for Colorado Christian as they spent a majority of the season ranked inside the top-10 nationally, climbing as high as #6. Holding serve at #3 in the South Central Region since the rankings were released, CCU is poised to make a deep run and look to improve upon their Regional Runner-Up finish from 2023. The Cougars join Colorado Mesa and Cinderella story Regis as the three teams representing the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference at regionals.

The action all begins at 4 p.m. MST on May 9 as CCU faces off with the Mavericks at Irwin Ballpark. Follow along at ccucougars.com for updates on all things CCU softball as they get ready to compete at the South Central Regionals for the third straight season.
