Lakewood, CO- Now that the spring championship season has come to a close, the final Learfield Directors Cup Standings have been released. This year the Cougars claimed 55th place, an exciting finish as over 200 division II schools took part in the competitive division that continues to become more and more difficult each year.
The Learfield Directors Cup is a competition across all NCAA sports and divisions. The point system measures performance at NCAA championships and postseason play, giving out predetermined point totals for placement at the championships.
The first section of points that came in this year began with both the men's and women's cross country teams. The men finished 8th in the Nation, with an individual 3rd place finish from
Matthew Storer, followed by a 16th place finish for the women. This success continued into the track season as the men's team took two athletes to Indoor Nationals coming away with four All American honors between the two. Outdoor Nationals consisted of 4 male athletes and one female athlete who brought home six All American Honors collectively.
Softball continued to bring points in as well after another trip to Regionals and a great post season performance. Men's golf wrapped up the spring season championships with a new title never before received in the history of CCU Athletics. The men came home with a National Champions title after an extensive 108 holes to claim the victory. The golf team received 100 points in the Learfield Cup Standings, the most points a single team can receive.
Prior to this year, the Cougars have continued to build momentum and move up in the Standings and this year's 55th place represents the hard work, stamina, and continued excellence CCU athletics has shown. 14 out of the 16 RMAC schools landed in the final 2023-24 Learfield Cup Standings and Colorado Christian finished 7th out of the conference, one place different from last year.
The Cougars will look to continue their success as the 2024 fall season approaches!
