LAKEWOOD, CO- Colorado Christian Athletics has announced the new head coach of the baseball program, and after five years as the assistant coach and one as the graduate assistant, Andrew Liberty has been named the teams' new head coach.
Liberty brings a wealth of coaching experience to the table as he has been a part of the baseball program at Colorado Christian for six years. Andrew served as a graduate assistant for the team in 2019 before assuming the assistant coach position in February 2020. Liberty served under head coach Gregg Mucerino in 2019 before assisting Paul Koss for the past five years.
"I am humbled to be entrusted by Jon Poag and CCU as the next leader of the program. I am grateful for the opportunities that were given to me to assist coach Mucerino and Koss. Both have taught me tremendous lessons that I value and have prepared me for this position to continue to develop young men into strong Christian leaders through a shared passion in baseball," Liberty said. "My college coaches during my time at Nova Southeastern University have been monumental in my development as a young coach. I am thankful to have them in my corner through my transition to lean on as well. I am excited to pick up where Coach Koss left and continue to move the program forward."
Former Head Coach Paul Koss recently accepted a position as the Director of Operations for Baseball at California Baptist University after serving three years as an assistant and five years as the head coach of the team. Over the past six seasons, Liberty alongside Koss has helped the team reach their first two RMAC Tournaments in program history, and he has coached a number of all-league players. Some of those awards include Honorable Mention for
JC Watne and Second Team All-Conference for
Jordan Medina in 2021, Second Team All-Conference for
Gabe Ramos in 2022, First Team All-Conference First Team All-Region and NCBWA and D2CCA All-American for
Wyatt Crenshaw, 2023 Second Team All-Conference from Ramos and First Team All-Conference for Medina in 2023 and RMAC Honorable Mention in 2024 for
Kade Carney among many others.
"My vision for the program is to provide a space of freedom to be unapologetically yourself while tirelessly pursuing love, gratitude and hard work. We will be known as a place of constant growth and improvement, while being a group that is recognized as playing selfless and fearless for each other and the Lord, letting go of the result and knowing our energy and effort is the focus," said Liberty. "The Lord honors those who honor Him. Our players will be prepared to be the next generation of Christian leaders in whatever they choose to pursue when they leave our program."
After six years at CCU, Andrew is ready to take on the responsibility of leading this program into the future and developing student-athletes who excel in character and on the diamond.
"Coach Liberty has a deep understanding of our team's history and clear vision for the program's development in the years ahead. I look forward to supporting Coach Liberty as he builds a winning culture on and off the diamond," Athletic Director Jon Poag said.
