LAKEWOOD, CO- The Black College Golf Coaches Association (BCGCA) announced their major awards on Monday, and after a historic season,
Xavier Bighaus has earned the Adrian Stills Award for Black College Golfer of the Year. The junior also received a place among the five people on the All-America team from the BCGCA.
Bighaus showed very quickly he was going to be one of the best golfers in the country, winning the first tournament of the fall at the Writz at Mile High. He closed the fall season with a third place finish at the Centennial Cup to continue the momentum into the spring. Xavier ended the regular season the way he started it, claiming another victory at the Southern Colorado Masters in Pueblo.
After claiming fifth at the RMAC Championships to help his team claim their first ever conference title, Bighaus continued his excellent play as the Cougars claimed second at Super Regionals to send the team to the National Championships. In stroke play, Xavier finished 29th as Colorado Christian made the cut for match play. Once there, Bighaus battled against some of the best golfers in the nation, taking a victory in his first match and battling hard to the very end on the final day of play. The team claimed a monumental victory over North Georgia to bring home the first National Championship in school history, something Xavier has been a part of building and working towards for the last three years.
"It's a pretty cool achievement and an honor to be able to represent this award. I definitely wouldn't be able to do it without my teammates, coaches and parents," Bighaus said.
Congratulations to
Xavier Bighaus on being honored with the Adrian Stills Award for Black College Golfer of the Year and being named to the BCGCA All-America Team!
