LAKEWOOD, CO- The Colorado Sports Hall of Fame announced their yearly awards, and after an historic season that culminated in the school's first ever NCAA National Title, the men's golf team earned the prestigious King of the Hill award.
The King of the Hill award is given yearly by the CSHOF to the sports team that had the most outstanding season. This historic award recognizes the teams' achievements and contributions to the sport. It was most certainly an outstanding season from the Cougars as they soared to heights never before seen by any golf program at any level based in the state of Colorado.
Coming into the year, CCU knew they had a roster talented enough to go the distance. They were seeking to do something no program at the school had ever done, capture an elusive and difficult to achieve NCAA National Championship. Throughout the year the team built their confidence, and when they got to Florida to compete with 19 other elite programs, they played with confidence and poise. Firing their way all the way to the title match against #1 North Georgia, Colorado Christian did what they had done all season. In the face of immense pressure, they stayed calm, cool and collected and won their match play against UNG by a score of 3-2 to hoist the first NCAA National Title in school history. It also marked the first Championship from any RMAC golf team and the first from any Colorado based golf team at any level of competition.
The victory was the biggest in the history of CCU Athletics, and the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame saw fit to give this coveted honor to the Cougars. Other recipients of this award in past years include the Denver Broncos, Colorado Avalanche and Denver Nuggets.
Congratulations to our Men's Golf Team on receiving the King of the Hill award from the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame!
