LAKEWOOD, CO- The Ben Hogan Award Watch List was released on Wednesday, and after climbing to the ranking of #1 in Division II, Sungyeop Cho has been named to the watch list for this coveted award. The list came from the Hogan Trophy Award Foundation, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) and the Friends of Golf (FOG).
Cho has been on an absolute tear since arriving at CCU, claiming two first place finishes and finishing in the top three on three occasions. After claiming his first victory of the season at the National Championship Preview in Florida, Sungyeop had the unique opportunity to play in the highly competitive Asia Pacific Amateur Championships in Japan. He then went on to share an individual title with his teammate in Hawaii as Cho helped his team to an undefeated fall in five tournaments played and a #1 ranking throughout. Additionally, Sungyeop is the only DII golfer on the list, and the award is given yearly to the top men's NCAA Division I, II or III, NAIA, or NJCAA college golfer based on all collegiate, amateur, and professional events over the previous 12 months.
The 10 semifinalists for the award will be announced later this year on April 17. The 10 will move to 3 finalists to be announced on May 6 with a black-tie dinner on Monday May 19 at the Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas to follow where the winner will be announced.
