PUEBLO, CO- The Cougars opened up the outdoor season Friday and Saturday as they competed at the Dr. Dan Caprioglio Invitational at the CSU Pueblo Thunderbowl. There were a number of stellar performances as the team kicked off the new season.
Ashley Vil got things started with a podium finish in the triple jump as she claimed third place with a leap of 11.23m. Vil continued in the long jump, leaping a distance of 5.18m.
Laken Meier and
Elana Sutton also competed in the long jump with marks of 4.51m and 4.26m respectively. Sutton took part in the high jump as well with a height of 1.45m. Sutton also took part in the shot put, throwing for a distance of 9.55m.
On the track,
Lorelei Daugherty and
Kaylie Bookout competed in the 10000m, running times of 39:58.63 and 41:18.28 respectively. A number of Cougars ran in the 1500m, and
Kate Miller paced the team with a run of 4:49.93.
Ava Maginity came next with a 4:54.82, and
Rachel Harpt and
Alayna Wallace ran times of 5:07.80 and 5:10.03.
Sarah Hamlin ran a 5:13.05 while
Kara Krulick and
Maleah Wardlaw ran a 5:15.54 and a 5:16.00 respectively. Madison Burholder finished with a 5:24.13, and
Emma Flowers and
Molly Wilkinson closed with times of 5:41.56 and 5:44.20.
Tara Smoker was strong in the 400m with a sixth place finish with a time of 58.81 seconds.
Hannah Zugich competed in the 400m hurdles, closing with a time of 1:12.08. Meier and
Madeline Schmeling ran in the 200m dash with times of 28.10 and 28.44.
For the men,
Sean McCauley led his team in the 10000m with a run of 31:00.04 to finish seventh.
Caleb Hershey,
Luke Meyer and
Jay Wood all closed with times of 31:30.15, 31:39.19 and 31:39.88.
Sam Schwarting ran a 32:14.95, and
Nico Ramirez posted a time of 32:56.74.
Kale Edmonds and
Drew Stilson ran times of 33:26.99 and 34:17.77 respectively. In the 1500m,
Tate Fletcher ran a 4:04.20, and
Clayton Ackley posted a 4:08.26.
Klay Grant ran a 4:13.09, and
Colden Welsh closed with a 4:19.96.
Jathan Rentfrow and
Jonah Beard ran in the 400m dash, posting times of 55.13 and 56.41.
Peter Junker took part in the 100m dash with a time of 12.44. The 800m saw
David Jaquez lead the team with a 2:12.43, while Ackley and
Jacob Marker ran times of 2:12.89 and 2:13.91. Beard, Rentfrow and Junker all participated in the 200m dash with times of 23.12, 24.14 and 25.99.
With the outdoor season now in full swing, CCU will head back down to Pueblo March 28-29 to take part in the Chuck Haering Invitational.
