BUCKEYE, GOODYEAR, AZ- Colorado Christian wrapped up play at the three-day Stack Cougar-Burro Collegiate in Arizona on Tuesday. After three rounds of play, two at Verrado Golf Club and the final round at Golf Club of Estrella, the Cougars took a dominant victory for their third straight tourney victory heading into the RMAC Championships in April.
Adam Duncan and Colorado Mesa's Cole Beyer both finished -11 and went to a playoff to decide the individual winner, and Duncan won the hole to bring home his second consecutive tournament victory.
ROUND ONE
Duncan led off the first round with yet another bogey-free round, carding a 68 with four birdies.
Xavier Bighaus followed with a six birdie 69 to come in just beyond his teammate.
Sangha Park posted a 70 with four birdies, while
Sungyeop Cho also netted a 70 with five birdies of his own.
Peyton Jones closed with a 71 on three birdies as the Cougars leaped to their usual spot atop the leaderboard.
Ben Fowler,
Bradley Mulder and
Camron Reddell competed as individuals at the tournament. Fowler closed day one with an even-par 72 with three birdies. Mulder followed with a 75 on three birdies, while Reddell shot a 77 with a pair of birdies.
ROUND TWO
Duncan had another stellar round on day two, firing off a 71 with three birdies to stay near the top of the leaderboard. Jones and Park shot a pair of 72s, and as Peyton shot an eagle on hole 10. Bighaus shot a 73, while Cho fired a 75.
Mulder had an excellent round two, carding a 69 with four birdies and an eagle on hole 7. Fowler closed with a 75, and Reddell shot a 79.
ROUND THREE
Duncan saved his best round for last, carding a 66 with five birdies and an eagle on hole 13. Adam finished the tournament 11 under par, tied with Beyer from the Mavericks as the two went to a playoff hole. After a beautiful drive and strong approach shot, Duncan chipped to within three feet and putted it home for the victory, his second straight tournament win.
Bighaus was fantastic on day three, leading his team with a nine birdie performance to post a 65 and claim third place overall. Jones followed with yet another excellent round, posting a 67 on seven birdies for a fourth place finish. Park fired a four birdie 69 as he took home fifth place, and Cho bounced back well with a 68 on four birdies to finish in eighth place.
Mulder closed strong, shooting a 71 on four birdies to finish in 12th. Fowler carded a 75 to claim 30th, and Reddell shot a 73 to finish in 54th.
As a team, the Cougars shot an overall score of 831 (277, 288, 266) to finish 33 strokes under par and take down the other 13 teams competing. The victory marks the eighth tournament win out of nine tournaments competed in as CCU has now won three straight headed into the RMAC Championships. The -22 final round score shot by the team set a new program record for lowest single round score.
With the team playing better than any DII team has in its history, the Cougars will look to win their second straight conference title at the RMAC Championships at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Nevada April 20-22.
