Sungyeop Cho Named 2025 Gary Player International Golfer of the Year

LAKEWOOD, CO- The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced their winners of the 2025 Gary Player International Golfer of the Year Award presented by FlightScopes on Wednesday, and for his tremendous efforts this season, Sungyeop Cho has claimed the honor for Division II.

The Gary Player Award is selected by GCAA International member coaches with representation from around the world. One winner each was selected for NCAA Divisions I, II, and III, as well as NAIA and NJCAA. Josele Ballester of Arizona State University and Spain, Justin Chan of Carnegie Mellon University and England, Jack Whaley of Dalton State College and England, and Adam Bresnu of Odessa College and Morocco are the recipients in the other divisions.

Cho hails from Yeoju-si, South Korea and transferred into CCU as a sophomore from Odessa College this season. In his second year of collegiate golf, Sungyeop displayed DI level talent as he finished the season ranked #2 in Division II, only behind his teammate Adam Duncan. Throughout 32 total rounds of play, Cho posted a tremendous scoring average of 69.4 as he claimed a pair of victories and finished in the top 3 on five different occasions. Sungyeop was named a DII Ping First Team All-American as he helped his team to a National Runner-Up at the NCAA National Championships in May. With aspirations of playing professionally in the future, Cho will be taking his talents to Division I as he plans to close his collegiate career at the University of Georgia before attempting to make it on the PGA Tour.

In just the second year of the awards existence, Sungyeop becomes the first golfer from CCU to claim the impressive distinction as he continues to pile up accolades for his achievements this season.

Congratulations to Sungyeop Cho on winning the 2025 Gary Player International Golfer of the Year Award!
