LAKEWOOD, CO- A member of the 2023-24 National Champion Men's Golf team is returning to lead the program he helped ascend the mountaintop of DII golf. Colorado Christian Athletics is excited to announce
Cameron Sandland, class of 2024, as the new head coach for Men's Golf.
Sandland played for the Cougars from 2021 to 2024, helping the team as they grew to national prominence. To this day, Sandland holds the lowest score in a single 18 hole round in program history when he shot an incredible 61 at the Waikoloa Kings Course on October 26, 2021. Cam won the tournament and guided his team to a victory that week.
"I'm both blessed and honored to lead a program that has brought so much success to this great, Christian University," Sandland said.
Sandland has the full support of his former coach Mark Hull as he steps into this new role.
"I'm excited for Cam to take the reins of the CCU Men's Golf program! He served in a role as a quasi assistant coach for us, even while he was still on the team," Hull said. "Cam was a highly decorated junior golfer and transferred into CCU from a very competitive Division I program. He chose to transfer to CCU, as he desired to experience a team atmosphere that put the Lord first, and as a result, he grew tremendously in his time at CCU."
Spending so much time as a part of the program he is now tasked to lead helped shape Cam and prepare him for this moment.
"This program changed my life, being able to live out our faith on and off the course is what sets us apart," said Sandland. Coach [Mark] Hull paved the way, showing myself what it looks like to be a servant leader while motivating a team to pursue excellence in all we do. I'm excited to lead with the same intentions and give God the glory through thick and thin."
The team certainly achieved excellence in Sandlands' time as a Cougar, going on an unprecedented run all the way to the schools' first national title at the end of the 2023-2024 season. Cam will bring that knowledge of winning at the highest level to the team as they prepare for the 2025-2026 season.
"One of the main goals for this season is to be competitive in the postseason and grow together as a team," Sandland said. "My goals as head coach in the coming years is to provide a great experience for our student athletes who pursue excellence that is built on the foundation of our faith."
With a great skill set and knowledge of golf, Sandland is ready for this incredible opportunity.
"Cam has been around the game his entire life and has an understanding of the game that reaches well beyond his years," said Hull. "He knows the game very well and knows what to look for in young players and the traits that will make them a great fit for our program. It was so important for us to have a former player take over the leadership of our program. Cam understands the unique way in which we operate the program here at CCU. I'm proud of the work Cam has done to get himself in a place to take over the reins, and I look forward to working with him to help keep CCU on the national golf map!"
