Cougar Alum Sangha Park Qualifies for First PGA Tour Event at PROCORE Championship

NAPA, CA- Former Cougar golfer Sangha Park made history on Monday, becoming the first CCU alumnus to qualify for a PGA Tour event.

It is an exciting time for Park as he played his way into the PROCORE Championship that will be held September 11-14 at Silverado Resort's North Course in Napa, California. The qualifier took place at Yolo Fliers Club in Woodland, California, and Park was outstanding as he carded a 65 to join Major Champion Jason Dufner, Jim Knous and Corey Pereira as the four qualifiers for the upcoming event.

"I feel very blessed to have this opportunity and am thankful to God," Park said. "I feel confident in my abilities."

With such an incredible qualifying round, Sangha explained how he was able to play so well.

"I think the main key was giving everything to God. I did not care whether I hit good or bad shots because if this is part of His plan, I knew he would bring it to me."

The upcoming Championship is the first of the FedEx Cup Fall events and will serve as a tune up for many of the world's top players for the upcoming Ryder Cup in two weeks. Team USA has 10 of the 12 Ryder Cup players participating alongside Park, including world #1 Scottie Scheffler. Sangha will surely be ready to show his skills against the best in the world as he tees off at 3:06 p.m. MST tomorrow. Sangha will be paired with Takumi Kanaya of Japan and fellow American Braden Thornberry as he tees off in his first ever PGA Tour event.

Speaking about the chance to play alongside the best at the game of golf in the world, Park explained "It's very exciting, I watched them on TV or social media, so it feels surreal but I am trying to treat this as any other tournament."

Park was a pivotal part of the Cougars' undefeated run in the regular season last year as they did not lose a single tournament all the way through Regionals. He was ranked as the #3 golfer in all of DII while at CCU with a scoring average of 69.2 with a pair of wins last season. He will now look to prove he is capable of doing it at the biggest stage as he plays with the best in the world in California this week.

"I always try not to have expectations so my goal is to trust in God and focus on what I can do," said Park. "Coach Hull and Coach Stan helped me develop on my mental side and the golf techniques side. Also, playing with high level teammates helped push me to grow more."

Colorado Christian Athletics is extremely proud of Sangha and wish him the best of luck as he competes in the PROCORE Championship September 11-14!
