LAKEWOOD, CO- The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) announced their major awards and All-RMAC teams on Wednesday, and after guiding her team back to the NCAA Regionals and a second place finish at the conference championships, Ashlyn Kennedy has been named RMAC Coach of the Year.
Raya Schulz claimed a spot on the First Team while
Makenna Brown and
Kendall Simms garnered Second Team honors.
Kennedy earns the first Coach of the Year honor after another stellar season leading the Cougars. CCU started the year with a second place finish at the Swan Memorial in Broomfield, and they followed with a fourth place finish at the Wasatch Invitational in Utah. The team continued to build momentum in the spring with a third place finish at the Southern Colorado Open, and they played great golf in Nevada at the RMAC Championships to claim second place and earn their way back to the NCAA Regionals. The team showed great growth throughout the season under the guidance of Kennedy, and she has been honored with the highest distinction a coach can get in the conference for her tremendous efforts.
Schulz closes her storied career at CCU with a fourth straight First Team All-Conference honor in all four years of her collegiate career. Raya once again led her team as she started the season with a second place finish and continued with strong results throughout the season. She capped her final RMAC championships with a second place finish and claimed 45th at Regionals to close her fantastic career. With a scoring average of 76.4 through 25 total rounds, Raya exemplified consistency and excellence throughout her career at Colorado Christian.

Brown earned All-Conference honors once again as she closed her time at CCU with another strong season. Makenna built towards a strong finish all year, and she proved she is one of the best golfers in the conference as she claimed medalist honors with a third place finish at the RMAC championships. With a trio of top 20 finishes throughout the season, Brown helped lead her team back to the NCAA Regionals to close her time with the Cougars. Part of a core of seniors, Brown has left a legacy of excellence with CCU women's golf and will be remembered as one of the better players to come through the program.

Simms earned Second Team honors after a strong freshman season with the Cougars. A starter in all 10 tournaments CCU took part in this season, Kendall was a big contributor with five top 25 finishes, including her season best of 12th at the Palm Valley Classic. Simms did not look like a first year collegiate golfer as the Texas native displayed consistency throughout the year for a scoring average of 77.9. With a 13th place finish at the RMAC Championships, Kendall helped her team punch their ticket to the NCAA Regionals for the second straight year. The future is certainly bright for Simms with three years of college golf remaining, and she will surely collect many more accolades as her career develops.
Congratulations to Ashlyn Kennedy on being named RMAC Coach of the Year and to
Raya Schulz and
Makenna Brown on earning First and Second Team honors!
