Kat Hanson Named RMAC Player of the Year, Larry Hays Coach of the Year as Cougars Have 7 All-RMAC Honorees

LAKEWOOD, CO- The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) announced their major awards and All-Conference teams on Thursday, and after an incredible regular season that saw the Cougars win 47 straight games and roll through the majority of league play, Kat Hanson has been named Player of the Year and Larry Hays is the Coach of the Year. Six other Cougars nabbed All-RMAC and Gold Glove honors for their tremendous efforts this season. 

Hanson has been nothing short of tremendous for her team in her sophomore campaign, leading her team to a historic season. The infielder from Arizona has played great softball all year, hitting for an average of .488 with a lofty ops of 1.332 and a slugging percentage of .816. With a league leading batting average, Kat also tops the RMAC in hits (98), runs scored (66) and doubles (19). In 201 at-bats, Hanson has also added 4 triples and 13 home runs for a total of 64 RBI. A threat every time she steps into the batter's box, Kat has struck out just 8 times all year and has an impressive on-base percentage of .516. With 16 walks and 164 total bases, Hanson has been an incredible presence in the league and on her team. Kat also finds herself on the Gold Glove Team for her stellar work at second base. With 209 catches, 104 putouts, 99 assists and just six errors, Hanson holds a fielding percentage of .971 with 15 double plays turned. The all-around player has been leading her team all year and will continue to do so as they head into postseason play. 

Leah Garcia nabbed a spot on both the First Team and Gold Glove Team for her excellent work at the plate and behind it at catcher. Currently boasting a .408 batting average, Leah holds an OPS of 1.118 in 179 at-bats. With 54 runs scored, 73 hits, 17 doubles, two triples and eight home runs, Leah has amassed 54 RBI as part of another excellent season for the senior. The Texas native has 118 total bases, a slugging percentage of .659, an on-base percentage of .459 and is 19-19 on stolen base attempts. Moving from the infield to catcher for the entirety of the season, Garcia has been pivotal to her teams' success with 274 catches, 234 putouts, 34 assists and just six errors for a fielding percentage of .978 with 8 runners caught stealing. 

Arriana Wright garners First Team and Gold Glove honors after an incredible senior year at CCU. Leading the RMAC in homers (17), slugging percentage (.818) and RBI (79), Wright has been a force to be reckoned with for every pitcher that faces her. A powerful hitter, Arriana has collected 74 hits that includes 15 doubles and 4 triples as she holds a batting average of .409 and an OPS of 1.295. With 61 runs scored in 181 at-bats, Wright has walked 28 times, has an on-base percentage of .477 and is 6-6 on stolen base attempts. Holding down first base, Wright was flawless with 378 catches, 365 putouts, 13 assists and zero errors for the perfect 1.00 fielding percentage with 23 double play turns. 

Elyse McMullin returns to the First Team and Gold Glove Team after yet another stellar season for the junior. Another all-around player for CCU, McMullin spent most of her time at third base while also pitching a game every series and doing damage at the plate. With 51 hits, 8 doubles, 4 triples, 3 homers and 29 RBI, Elyse has once again been a string bat for her team in the two-hole of the lineup. At pitcher, McMullin has delivered time and time again, boasting a team-best 1.59 ERA and an 11-0 record in 75.0 innings pitched. With 43 strikeouts she has held opponents to a low batting average of .212. Fielding at pitcher and third base, Elyse has 158 catches, 45 putouts, 102 assists and a fielding percentage of .930 at the hot corner. 

Peyton Marvel finds herself on the First Team after an Honorable Mention in her freshman season last year. With her best year yet, the shortstop from Lakewood has hit for a batting average of .376 with an OPS of 1.021, 49 runs scored, 64 hits, 15 doubles, 3 triples and six homers, the sophomore has delivered a pair of walkoffs for her team including a homer against Mines to send her team home with the win. Marvel has been excellent with an on-base percentage of .415 and a slugging percentage of .606 with a 21-22 mark on stolen base attempts. 

Felesha LePenske earned Second Team honors after a stellar season where she contributed both in the circle and at the plate. At pitcher, LePenske was excellent with a 21-1 overall record and a 2.77 ERA. With 99 strikeouts, a 1.12 WHIP, 12 complete games and 129.0 innings pitched, LePenske has been absolutely dominant as she has helped her team win game after game this season. At the plate, Felesha has a batting average of .373, an OPS of 1.161, 63 hits, 13 doubles, a triple and 12 homers with 55 RBI to help the Cougars to a historic season.

Freshman Maya Schroeder is already making noise in the RMAC with a Second Team nod, playing in left field and hitting the ball at a high level as a starter all year. With the second best average on the team of .417, Maya has amassed 32 runs scored, 70 hits, 8 doubles, 2 triples and 4 homers with 47 RBI. In left field the talented Minnesota native has collected 64 catches with 64 putouts, 2 assists and just 2 errors for a fielding percentage of .969. 

Larry Hays earned his third RMAC Coach of the Year after leading his program to a historic season with a record breaking 47 game win streak. With a 42-2 conference record, the Cougars were virtually unbeatable all season with a 52-4 overall mark on the season heading into postseason play. With an uncanny ability to find new players and retool each year, CCU is having one of their best years in program history under the leadership of Hays and has been a dominating force in the RMAC ever since he took over.
