Lakewood, CO – The Cougars took on Colorado Mesa in a home matchup Sunday afternoon. Their last matchup before conference play, the Cougars fell 0-3 to the Mavericks.
CCU looked to establish themselves early, getting two shots off in the first three minutes of play. Colorado Mesa would strike early, scoring in the 12
th minute. They would put another one in the back of the net in the 35
th minute, leaving the Cougars a large hole to try and dig the last 55 minutes of play.
Beckett Pomeroy would make an impressive save to close out the half, the Cougars entering the locker room 0-2.
CCU continued to battle in the second half, creating several opportunities as the Cougars looked to cut into the deficit. Colorado Mesa would eventually add another goal in the 59th minute, extending their lead 3-0.
Oscar Sreckov would look to battle back, forcing a save from the Mesa keeper in the 76
th minute, Lugo and Zimmerman adding a shot of their own in the final 10 minutes of the game.
Pomeroy finished the afternoon with six saves in goal for CCU. Ben Brown led the Cougars with three shots,
Kylar Carr adding two himself, no Cougar able to find the net throughout the day.
The Cougars look to bounce back and start conference play on the right foot this Friday against Fort Lewis College. Kickoff is set for 11am MST at Trailblazer Stadium.
