Lakewood, CO – The Colorado Christian men's soccer team officially opened conference play on Friday at Trailblazer Stadium, hosting the Skyhawks from Fort Lewis
. The Cougars eventually fell short 3-0 at the end of competition.
The match was well-balanced with both offensive and defensive players stepping up. The Cougars' Goalkeeper,
Campbell Wolfgramm, had 2 saves in the first half. After a deadlock through the first 30 minutes, the Skyhawks took the lead in the 33rd minute of competition after a costly foul by the Cougars ended in a penalty kick. The Cougars, in total, had 4 shots on goal, none able to find the back of the net. The last 12 minutes of the half stayed balanced, resulting in the Skyhawks keeping their 1-0 lead.
The Cougars entered the second half with high energy, creating several chances. In the first 15 minutes of the second half, Fort Lewis' Fabrizio Aguilera put another goal in for the Skyhawks, allowing them to take the lead 2-0. In the 66th minute of the competition, the Skyhawks added to their lead by a goal from William Bretvik. The Cougars continued their fight to claw back, putting up 7 shots in the second half.
Both teams fought until the end as the game would end with the Skyhawks winning 3-0.
The Cougars tallied 17 shots, 10 in the first and 7 in the second, with 4 of them on frame.
The team will look to bounce back as they return to Trailblazer Stadium on Sunday, taking on fellow conference opponent Adams State University with a scheduled start at 11:00am MST.
