SPEARFISH, S.D. – History was made for the Colorado Christian Indoor Track and Field program as they closed out the campaign at the RMAC Championships.
The women's team placed a school best ever eighth at the event while winning an individual event for the first time. The men's team had a trio of top 10 finishes as they placed 11th at the event.
WOMEN'S RECAP
Sprints
Hannah George continued her assault on the school's 60 meter record as she lowered he already school record time to 7.91.
The highlight of the meet for the program came during the 800 meter race. Michelle Kuipers ran a school best time of 2:14.23 to place first in the opening heat. The freshman had to wait until the second heat and when teammate Shannon King finished in 2:16.11, the duo took the top two spots on the podium. It is the first time in school history a female track and field athlete won an individual event at an RMAC Championship.
Moreover, Paige Tack placed sixth (2:20.47) to grab three team points. The trio's 21 team points represents the largest team total in the four-year history of the indoor program.
Relay
The Distance Medley Relay earned a fourth place finish and five more team points as the grouping of King, Tessa Hooper, Tack and Kuipers clocked a school record time of 12:07.80.
MEN'S RECAP
Sprints
Tyler Bradley clipped the tape on Friday afternoon in the 60 meter in a time of 7.10.
He qualified for the finals in the 200 meter race. The sophomore's preliminary round time of 22.47 was good enough for sixth which moved into the final eight. In the finals on Sunday, Bradley placed sixth as he crossed the finish line in 22.41 securing three team points.
Distance
In the one mile race Trent Cochran scored three points for the Cougars with a sixth-place finish as he registered a time of 4:17.49. Jeremy Miller crossed the finish line in 4:28.58. Each runner overcame a trip and fall in their respective races.
Relay
In the Distance Medley Relay the Cougars ran in the second, and faster, heat. The foursome of Miller, Nico Ramirez, Isaac Roberts and Hudson Majeski placed fourth overall with a time of 10:26.85 which was just two seconds off the school record. That event also produced five team points.
UP NEXT: The Cougars will await to see who earned an invitational the NCAA Championships. The complete field will be announced on Tuesday afternoon and will be posted at NCAA.com.
