DENVER – Two races into the season, the Colorado Christian women's cross county squad is showing they have something unique and special.
Competing at the Roadrunner Invitational, the Cougars placed third in the eight-team field at Washington Park on Friday afternoon.
The only teams to better Colorado Christian's effort was No. 2 Colorado School of Mines, who won the event with 27 points, and NCAA Division I foe Colorado State (40 points).
Colorado Christian's 76 total points outdistanced themselves from RMAC foes MSU Denver, UCCS and Regis as well as Wyoming.
Earlier this week the Cougars earned a ranking of 27th by the USTFCCCA. Just the second national ranking in program history.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The tandem of Shannon King and Paige Tack were outstanding throughout as they competed nearly side-by-side the entire race. King placed seventh overall with a time of 22:20.6 over the 6K course while Tack took 10th by crossing the finish line in 22:26.1.
Christy Shuster put together a great second half of the race as she pushed to a 16th place finish by tallying a time of 22:55.2 as the third scorer for the Cougars. Alysia Wagner continued her fine freshman campaign by placing 20th (23:08.3).
Michelle Kuipers was the program's final scoring runner as the sophomore clipped the finish line in a time of 23:20.5.
UP NEXT: The Cougars will compete at two locations on Saturday, Oct. 9 as they travel to the Lewis Crossover and the Fort Hays State Tiger Open.
