Cougars Compete Among Nation's Best in Lone Star State

DENTON, TX – The Cougars were put to the test in Texas over the last two days.

Battling not only strong competition but, warm and humid conditions the Colorado Christian women's golf team placed 15th at the DBU Fall Classic on Monday and Tuesday.

Faith Kilgore recorded another top 10 finish to pace the squad. She finished in a tie for fifth place.

Lynn (FL) won the event which featured 19 total teams; nine of which were ranked in the latest top 25 national poll.

FIRST ROUND RECAP: The Cougars shot a 311 (+23) after the first 18 holes which put them in a tie for the 16th position.

Kilgore put together a round of one-over par 73 to pace the team which put her in a tie for 13th. Both Emily Donaldson and Courtney Andersson fired rounds of 79 (+7) for the second best scores among Colorado Christian competitors.

Kiersten Bryant and Maggie Porter completed morning play for the Cougars by registering rounds of 80 (+8) and 83 (+11) respectively.

SECOND ROUND RECAP: Colorado Christian made a 15-stroke improvement during Monday's afternoon round by firing a 296 (+8) as they moved up to 15th.

Kilgore's three birdie round aided in her 71 (-1) as she moved into the top 10 overall. Heading into the final round, the senior was tied for seventh. Porter bettered her round one total by nine strokes as she carded a 74 (+2) during the day's second 18 holes.

Donaldson upgraded her score by four strokes as she penciled a 75 (+3) on her second round scorecard. Andersson continued the improvement theme with a second round 76 (+4).

Bryant battled her way to a second round score of 84 (+12).

FINAL ROUND RECAP: The last 18 holes saw the Cougars put together a round of 311 (+23) as the squad hovered around their finishing position all day.

Kilgore tallied a one-under par round of 71 as she finished in a tied for fifth. Playing in her home state, she finished six strokes off the leader.

Donaldson closed out her event with a 77 (+5) to finish tied for 49th. Andersson completed her scorecard with a Tuesday 78 (+6).

Both Porter and Bryant recorded rounds of 85 (+13).

INSIDE THE SCORECARD

  • The Cougars recorded 23 birdies and 157 pars
  • Kilgore was tied for third by playing the par three holes at one-over par during the event

UP NEXT: The Cougars travel to Phoenix for the RJGA Shootout at Estrella. The two-day event begins runs between Monday, Sept. 27 and Tuesday, Sept. 28.
