BOULDER CITY, NV- CCU competed at the RMAC Championships April 19-21 as they looked to battle for an RMAC title.
Raya Schulz and
Makenna Brown led the way, finishing second and third respectively as the Cougars gave it their all in a gritty tie for second place from the team.
ROUND ONE
Schulz and Brown started strong, each carding 70s with four birdies apiece.
Kylee Hughes followed with a 76, while
Kendall Simms fired a 77.
Anna Mettler matched her teammate with a 77 as well to close the first round.
ROUND TWO
Schulz carded a 73 with three birdies in round two, while Brown and Simms each tallied 75s. Hughes and Mettler closed with 78s as CCU headed into the final round.
ROUND THREE
Things got interesting in the final round of play as the winds picked up and made conditions difficult to play in. The RMAC made the decision to halt the round midway through the final 9 holes of play. Thus, the first nine holes were all that counted in the final round of play.
Schulz closed the tournament with a 39 as she claimed second place, just one stroke off the winner from Westminster. Brown finished with a 39 as well as she took medalist honors in third place, while a 39 from Simms gave her 13th place. Hughes shot a 40 to claim 18th, and Mettler carded a 44 to finish in 30th.
Overall, the Cougars totaled a score of 751 (293, 301, 157), to tie for second place with Westminster, a mere 6 strokes behind the winners CSU Pueblo.
CCU will now hope for an at-large bid to the NCAA West Regional that will take place May 4-6 at Pueblo Country Club.
