Cougars Place Third at RJGA Shootout

GOODYEAR, AZ – Another start resulted into another top five team finish.

In their third tournament of the season, the Colorado Christian women's golf team came away with a third place finish at the RJGA Shootout at Estrella. It is the second top five finish this season in the three events the team has played.

The Cougars finished the 36-hole event by recording a score of 30-over par (606). Cal State San Marcos won the event by shooting a 598 (+22). Embry-Riddle finished in second place, six strokes behind the top spot.

Faith Kilgore finished tied for fourth place to tally her third consecutive top five individual finish.

FIRST ROUND RECAP: After their first round score of 302 (+14), the Cougars were just two strokes behind Cal State East Bay and one stroke off second place Sonoma State. The team score was the second lowest 18 hole score this season.

Individually a six-birdie round from Kilgore led the way. The senior was in second place after carding a first round 70 (-2).  Courtney Andersson had the second best round for the squad as she went two-over par and was in a tie for ninth place.

Emily Donaldson's 76 (+4) was the third best score for the team. Playing as a scoring golfer for the first time in her collegiate career, Mary Beth Doss was the fourth best player for Colorado Christian as she registered an 82 (+10).

Kiersten Bryant played well with 12 pars and a birdie, but two frustrating holes were her undoing as she tallied an 83 (+11).

FINAL ROUND RECAP: Colorado Christian closed out the event by carding a 304 (+16). They were in contention for the team title and briefly were tied for the top spot.

Kilgore closed out her tournament by firing an even par round of 72. She played 13 holes at par while also registering a pair of birdies.

Andersson put together her first top finish 10 finish as a collegiate competitor. During the last 18 holes she was three-over par (75) to complete the two days in a tie for 10th. Donaldson closed out her event with a 78 (+6) as she placed in a tie for 27th.

Bryant factored into Tuesday's team scoring with a 77 (+5). Doss carded a final round 83 (+11).

INSIDE THE SCORECARD

  • Colorado Christian's 22 birdies led the entire field
  • The Cougars had a 3.13 scoring average on par three holes; the second best in the event
  • Kilgore led all players with eight birdies
